Oklahoma
Motorcycle Insurance

Oklahoma holds the longest drivable stretch of Route 66 and one end of the Talimena Scenic Byway, which is a good argument for owning a bike and a better one for insuring it correctly. Harvey Insurance writes the coverage riders here actually need.

The Coverage Riders Skip and Later Regret

Two lines matter more on an Oklahoma motorcycle policy than anywhere else, and both get trimmed to save money. The first is uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage. A meaningful share of Oklahoma drivers carry no insurance, and in a car-versus-motorcycle collision the rider is the one who gets hurt — leaving your own medical bills to be paid by a driver who has nothing. UM/UIM is the coverage that answers, and it is inexpensive relative to what it does. The second is accessory coverage. A base policy insures a stock bike, and Oklahoma riders do not own stock bikes. Exhaust, bags, seats, windshields, chrome, and audio can add thousands that a standard settlement will not include unless they are scheduled. Add layup provisions for the winter months and safety-apparel coverage for helmets and jackets, and the policy starts reflecting what riding actually costs.

What’s Covered

Motorcycle Coverage in Oklahoma

Liability, physical damage, and the pieces built specifically for bikes.

Liability Protection
Bodily injury and property damage you cause, at limits that hold up when a motorcycle collision produces serious injury.
Uninsured & Underinsured Motorist
Pays your injuries when the at-fault driver has no coverage — the single most valuable line on an Oklahoma bike policy.
Collision & Comprehensive
Damage from a wreck, a laydown, theft, fire, and the hail that reaches bikes parked outside across the state.
Custom Parts & Accessories
Coverage for exhaust, bags, seats, chrome, audio, and everything else that is not on the bike as it left the factory.
Safety Apparel
Helmets, jackets, boots, and gloves damaged in a covered accident, which a standard policy will not otherwise replace.
Layup & Storage Options
Reduced coverage through the winter months that keeps theft and storm protection in force without paying full-season rates.
Across Oklahoma

Riding conditions across Oklahoma

Three factors that shape motorcycle claims in the state.

Roads

Route 66 & the Talimena

Historic highway miles and the Talimena Scenic Byway draw riders from across the region. Long touring days on two-lane roads carry their own exposure profile.

Traffic

Metro Corridors & Turnpikes

The OKC and Tulsa metros and the turnpike system mix bikes with high-speed and inattentive traffic, where left-turn and lane-change collisions concentrate.

Weather

Wind, Hail & Sudden Storms

Oklahoma crosswinds, fast-building storms, and hail affect both riding conditions and bikes parked outside.

Why Harvey Insurance

How we write Oklahoma bike policies

Three things we will not let you skip without saying so.

01

UM/UIM Written Properly

Given the uninsured rate, this is the coverage that most often decides whether an injured rider is made whole. We recommend real limits, not the minimum.

02

Custom Parts Scheduled

We ask what you have added and list it, so a total loss reflects the bike you built rather than the one in the catalog.

03

Layup Instead of Cancelling

Suspending coverage in winter leaves theft and hail uncovered. A layup endorsement is the cheaper and safer way to handle the off-season.

FAQ

Common questions about Oklahoma motorcycle insurance

Is motorcycle insurance required in Oklahoma?
Yes. Oklahoma requires liability coverage on motorcycles as it does on other vehicles, and riding without it carries real penalties. State-minimum limits, however, are a legal floor rather than adequate protection — motorcycle collisions produce injury claims that exhaust minimum limits quickly.
Can I add my motorcycle to my auto policy?
No. Motorcycles are not covered vehicles under a personal auto policy and require their own coverage. A motorcycle policy also includes things an auto form has no concept of, such as accessory coverage, safety apparel, and layup provisions for the winter.
Why does uninsured motorist coverage matter so much for riders?
Because in a collision between a car and a motorcycle, the rider absorbs the injuries. If the at-fault driver has no insurance — which is not unusual in Oklahoma — your medical costs and lost income have no other source of payment. UM/UIM coverage steps into that gap, and it is one of the least expensive protections on the policy.
Should I cancel coverage for the winter?
Layup coverage is the better option. Cancelling entirely removes protection against theft, fire, and hail during months when the bike is sitting unattended in a garage or storage unit, which is when a meaningful share of motorcycle claims occur. A layup endorsement keeps that coverage while dropping the road-use portion of the premium.

Other coverage we write in Oklahoma

Motorcycle Insurance is not the only thing we write in Oklahoma. Most households end up combining a few of these, which is usually where the savings turn up.
