Classic & Collector Car Insurance

A restored ’67 Mustang or a numbers-matching muscle car is worth far more than any depreciation table says — and a standard auto policy pays the table, not the car. Harvey Insurance writes agreed-value coverage so your collector car is insured for what it’s truly worth.

Insured for What It’s Actually Worth

The difference between collector coverage and a regular auto policy comes down to one word: value. A standard policy pays a depreciated book figure that treats your restored classic like a used commuter, ignoring the years and dollars poured into it. Agreed-value coverage settles the number up front — you and the carrier agree on it — so a total loss pays that amount, period. Because these cars are driven sparingly and stored carefully, that stronger coverage often costs less than insuring an ordinary daily driver.

What’s Covered

Collector Coverage Done Right

We place collector cars — including vehicles imported from overseas — with carriers built for the hobby, so agreed value, limited use, and the realities of ownership are the starting point, not an upcharge.

Agreed Value
You and the carrier set the car’s value when the policy is written, and a covered total loss pays that full amount — no depreciation argument, no book-value surprise at the worst possible moment.
Flexible Usage Terms
Collector policies assume pleasure use — shows, club drives, the occasional weekend cruise — rather than a daily commute, which is a big part of why the premiums run lower than standard coverage.
Coverage During Restoration
A car being built can be insured for its rising value as the work progresses, so a fire or theft mid-project doesn’t erase the money and hours already invested.
Roadside Without the Wrong Tow
Specialized roadside means a flatbed and careful handling — not a hook that damages a low, rare, or irreplaceable car on the way to the shop.
Show & Exhibition Protection
Coverage follows the car to shows and cars-and-coffee meets, protecting it against damage and theft while it’s on display, not just while it’s in the garage.
Imported & Foreign-Market Vehicles
JDM legends, European classics, and grey-market imports are among our most frequent requests — we set agreed values on real overseas market data and place them with carriers who handle right-hand drive, hard-to-source parts, and non-US titling.
Across Texas

From barn finds to exotics

The collector vehicles Texans trust us to insure:

Antique & Classic

Pre-War to ’80s

Antiques and classics get agreed values grounded in real market data — condition, rarity, and documented history, not a generic depreciation curve.

Muscle & Hot Rods

Restomods & Customs

Muscle cars, restomods, and hot rods with modified drivetrains are valued on the build itself, so the custom work is covered rather than ignored.

Exotic & Modern Collectible

Investment-Grade

Exotics and appreciating modern collectibles carry high, moving values — we set coverage that keeps pace with a market that doesn’t stand still.

Why Harvey Insurance

Agents who get the hobby

Your car isn’t transportation — it’s a project, an investment, and a piece of history. It should be insured by someone who understands that.

01

Collector-Car Carriers

We place your car with insurers dedicated to the hobby, so agreed value, restoration coverage, and low-mileage discounts are standard features — not concessions you have to fight a mainstream company for.

02

Real Valuation Help

We help you document and set a value that reflects condition, rarity, and the work you’ve done, so the agreed figure holds up and you’re neither underinsured nor overpaying.

03

A Careful Claim

If the unthinkable happens, you deal with the agency that wrote the policy — people who understand that a rare car can’t just be replaced off a lot and who handle the claim accordingly.

FAQ

Common questions about classic car insurance

What qualifies as a classic or collector car?
It’s less about a strict age cutoff than about how the car is used and valued. Antiques, classics, muscle cars, hot rods, exotics, and appreciating modern collectibles all qualify when they’re driven sparingly, stored with care, and worth more than a standard depreciation table reflects. If that describes your car, it likely fits a collector policy.
How is agreed value different from stated or actual cash value?
Agreed value is a number you and the carrier fix in advance, paid in full on a covered total loss. Actual cash value pays a depreciated market figure. Stated value can be capped at the lesser of the stated amount or ACV — which quietly reintroduces depreciation. Agreed value is the gold standard for a collector car, and it’s what we aim for.
Can I drive my classic every day?
Generally not on a collector policy. These policies price their lower premiums on limited pleasure use — shows, club events, and occasional weekend drives. If you need a daily driver, that belongs on a standard auto policy; we can write both and keep them properly separated.
Why is collector coverage often cheaper than a regular policy?
Because the risk is lower: the cars are driven few miles, stored in garages, and cared for by owners with a stake in keeping them pristine. Carriers price that reduced exposure into the premium, which is why fuller, agreed-value coverage frequently costs less than insuring an ordinary car.
Can I insure a car that’s still being restored?
Yes. We can cover a project car for its value as the restoration progresses, so a loss during the build doesn’t wipe out the parts, labor, and money already invested. As the car’s worth climbs, the coverage can climb with it.
Are modified or custom cars covered?
They can be, and this is where collector coverage shines. The modifications and custom work are factored into the agreed value rather than dismissed as they often are on a standard policy — so a hot rod or restomod is insured for what the build is really worth.
Do you insure vehicles imported from overseas?
Yes, and it’s one of the most frequent requests we get. Whether it’s a JDM icon brought in under the 25-year federal import rule, a European classic, or a grey-market vehicle, we regularly write imports and place them with carriers who understand foreign valuation, right-hand-drive configurations, and the reality that replacement parts may ship from another continent. The agreed value reflects what the car is genuinely worth here — not a domestic book figure that ignores where it came from.
