Life Insurance Built for Houston

Houston’s size hides how different one household is from the next — a young couple renting in Montrose, a family with a new mortgage in Kingwood, and a multi-generation home in the East End all need very different policies. What they share is that a median household income near $65,000 leaves little margin if a wage earner is gone. Term life is the affordable core for most Houston families: it replaces years of income and clears the mortgage for pennies on the dollar. For those with more assets or estate goals, we also write whole and universal life — and with a citywide median age of 34, most residents can lock in low rates today.

Why It Matters

Why Houston families protect their income

Whatever corner of Houston you call home, life insurance protects the same essentials: the income that runs the household, the mortgage on the home, and the children who depend on you.

Income

Replacing a Paycheck

With Houston’s median household income near $65,000 — and far higher in many professional households — a term policy can replace $650,000 or more of future earnings so your family isn’t forced to move or downsize.

Mortgage

Covering the Mortgage

From bungalows in The Heights to new builds in the far suburbs, most Houston homes carry a mortgage. The right death benefit pays it off in full so a surviving spouse keeps the house free and clear.

Family

Raising Kids Without You

Houston’s young median age of 34 reflects a city full of families with children at home. Coverage keeps childcare, tuition, and daily needs funded no matter what happens to a parent.

Communities We Serve

Houston families, neighborhood by neighborhood

Houston is a patchwork of distinct neighborhoods, and we tailor coverage to the families in each one — from the inner loop to the outer suburbs.

The Heights

One of Houston’s oldest districts, where young families buy and restore historic bungalows — new mortgages that a term policy is built to protect.

Montrose

The city’s cultural core draws young professionals and couples — the ideal stage to lock in low term rates before rates rise with age.

River Oaks

Houston’s most prestigious neighborhood, where high-net-worth families use whole and universal life for estate planning and legacy goals.

Kingwood

The “Livable Forest” in northeast Houston is packed with family homes and good schools, where mortgage and income protection top the list.

Clear Lake

The aerospace and energy hub in southeast Houston is home to established professional families who want coverage sized to two incomes and a larger home.

FAQ

Common Houston life insurance questions

Do my beneficiaries pay income tax on the death benefit?
Generally no. A life insurance death benefit paid to a named beneficiary is normally received free of federal income tax, which is one of the defining features of the product, and Texas imposes no state income tax on top of that. The money usually arrives whole.
Is there any part of it that is taxable?
Interest can be. If the insurer holds the proceeds and pays interest — because of a delay, or because the beneficiary chose an installment or retained-asset arrangement instead of a lump sum — that interest portion is generally taxable even though the benefit itself is not. It is a small distinction that surprises people at tax time.
What about estate tax?
That is a separate question from income tax and it turns on ownership. If the insured owned the policy at death, the benefit is generally counted in the taxable estate, which matters only for estates large enough to reach the federal threshold. The threshold moves with legislation, so the number is worth checking rather than remembering.
Does Texas tax an inheritance?
Texas has no state estate tax and no inheritance tax, so the state layer that exists in some other states is simply absent here. The federal rules still apply. For most families the practical answer is that the benefit arrives without a tax event attached to it.
